    UAE telecom subscribers rise to 21.9 million by end of 2020

    The number of telecom subscribers in the UAE, including mobile phones, landlines and Internet, grew to 21.92 million by the end of 2020. The latest statistics released by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority indicated an increase in the number of mobile phone subscribers to 16.82 million by December end from 16.70 million in November, at a spread rate of 186.1 lines per 100 people, with mobile subscriptions accounting for 76.2 percent of the total subscription base.

    UAE telecom subscribers rise to 21.9 million by end of 2020
    Pre-paid mobile phone subscriptions totaled 13.178 million by end of December, while post-paid mobile phone subscriptions stood at 3.641 million for the same reference month. Landline subscriptions likewise increased to 2.128 million. However, the total number of internet subscriptions stood at 2.98 million.

    Nepal flood missing count rises to 6,150 after verification

    Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has raised the number of people missing after the Aug. 26 floods to 6,150. The revised total is 971 higher than the previous figure of 5,179. Authorities have also recovered 1,403 bodies since the disaster struck. The floods and debris flows caused extensive damage across northern Nepal, particularly near the border with China. Authorities have identified 105 of the recovered bodies and continue forensic work on the others. The latest government data lists 3,175 DNA samples collected during the identification process. Another 587 foreign nationals remain among those listed as missing, adding an international dimension to the continuing search and identification effort.
