CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves rose to a record $57.2145 billion at the end of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt released the provisional figure on September 7. Reserves stood at $56.2939 billion at the end of July. That means the total increased by about $920.6 million during August, or roughly 1.6%. The latest reading extends a series of monthly gains in 2026 and takes Egypt’s official foreign reserves above $57 billion for the first time.

Egypt reserves set new record at $57.2 billion in August
Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $57.2 billion in August 2026.

The August total was $7.9638 billion higher than the $49.2507 billion recorded in August 2025. That represents annual growth of about 16.2%. Egypt ended December 2025 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion. Reserves have therefore increased by about $5.76 billion, or 11.2%, during the first eight months of 2026. Official monthly figures show that the reserve total has risen every month since the start of the year, with gains continuing through August.

The pace of reserve accumulation increased during the middle of the year. Net international reserves reached $53.1342 billion in May before rising to $55.0723 billion in June. They then advanced to $56.2939 billion in July and $57.2145 billion in August. The June increase amounted to about $1.94 billion from May. July added another $1.22 billion, while August contributed about $920.6 million. Together, those three monthly increases added more than $4 billion to Egypt’s international reserve position.

    Foreign currency inflows remain elevated

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also reached a record level during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported remittance inflows of about $47.3 billion for the period. That represented a 29.6% increase from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances reached about $4.2 billion. That was 15.6% higher than the approximately $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, according to the official figures released in August.

Egypt’s latest available balance of payments figures cover the July to March period of fiscal year 2025/2026. The overall balance of payments recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion during those nine months. The capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion over the same period. The current account recorded a deficit of $14.6 billion. Those figures provide the latest official snapshot of Egypt’s broader external accounts before the August international reserves update.

Reserve holdings set successive monthly highs

The reserve series has moved through several new nominal highs during 2026. Reserves totaled $52.5938 billion in January and $52.7455 billion in February. They reached $52.8306 billion in March, followed by $53.0092 billion in April and $53.1342 billion in May. The total then crossed $55 billion in June, $56 billion in July and $57 billion in August. The August figure remains provisional, consistent with the designation used for the latest monthly reserve releases.

Egypt’s August reserve level also stands nearly $8 billion above its position one year earlier. The country has now recorded three consecutive month-end totals above $55 billion. July marked the first monthly reading above $56 billion, while August produced the first above $57 billion. Compared with December 2025, the reserve stock has expanded by more than one-tenth. The August data therefore establish a new record for Egypt’s net international reserves while extending the uninterrupted monthly increase recorded throughout 2026.
