Heavy rain began affecting Hainan on September 11 as a South China Sea tropical depression interacted with cold air. The system brought widespread downpours to the island, with the heaviest rain falling across southern and central areas. Baoting, Wuzhishan, Wanning, Qionghai, and Lingshui were among the locations facing significant rainfall. Rivers rose and water accumulated in several communities as the rain continued.

Authorities set the official chicken meat price at Rs461 per kilogram after cutting the notified rate by Rs22. Retail sellers still charged between Rs520 and Rs570 per kilogram. Potatoes carried an official price of Rs27 to Rs30, yet market rates reached Rs50 to Rs70. Tomatoes were listed between Rs130 and Rs180 but sold for Rs250 to Rs300. Onions also exceeded their notified ceiling, with retail prices reaching Rs200 to Rs220.

The difference extended across other common foods. Spinach was officially priced between Rs57 and Rs60 but sold for as much as Rs120. Farm cucumbers carried an official range of Rs85 to Rs90, while shops charged up to Rs150. Fruit prices showed some of the largest gaps. Certain varieties of dates carried notified prices between Rs310 and Rs435 per kilogram. Retail prices, however, ranged from Rs800 to Rs2,400.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Berlin on Wednesday for a state visit to Germany. German military aircraft escorted his plane after it entered German airspace. An official reception followed, including a 21-gun salute and a guard of honour. The visit marks the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. Sheikh Mohamed is in Germany for meetings with the country’s senior political leadership.

The international measure focuses directly on the widely utilized Mercator map projection, which was originally developed in the 16th century by Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator for maritime navigation purposes. While effective for nautical direction, the mathematical scaling of the Mercator model progressively exaggerates landmass sizes farther from the equator while compressing regions near it. According to documentation published by the United Nations General Assembly, these technical distortions continue to permeate modern educational textbooks, news media broadcasts, digital mapping platforms, and official government publications worldwide.

Structured training supports breeding standards
Accepted breeders and their teams will receive specialist instruction through Abu Dhabi Nature Academy. Courses and workshops will cover responsible houbara breeding, animal welfare, biosecurity and the management of breeding facilities. The training will also address operational practices used in managed breeding programs. Participants who complete the required courses can receive certificates, while specialists will continue providing technical guidance during their involvement in the initiative.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek during the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit. The August 31 meeting covered political ties, trade, defence, energy, space, mobility and contacts between people. Modi and Putin also discussed regional conflicts and cooperation through major multilateral forums. The talks marked their first in-person meeting of 2026 and continued a series of high-level exchanges between India and Russia.

Seventy years of diplomatic relations
Economic ties form a major part of the relationship. Egypt’s State Information Service said bilateral trade reached about $20.78 billion in 2025. That compared with roughly $17.37 billion in 2024, representing growth of about 19.6%. China ranks as Egypt’s largest trading partner in non-oil goods. Egyptian exports to China reached $840.8 million during the first half of 2026. Imports from China totaled about $10.4 billion during the same six-month period.
Trade between the two countries reached about $11.3 billion in the first half of 2026. That was up from approximately $9.3 billion a year earlier. Egypt exports products including fuels, mineral oils, vegetables, fruit, cotton and phosphates to China. Chinese investment and contracting activity also extends across several major Egyptian projects. These include developments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the New Administrative Capital and electric transport infrastructure serving areas east of Cairo.

The report says almost 19% of the world’s children now live in conflict zones. That compares with about 10% during the 1990s. By the end of 2024, conflict and violence had displaced 48.8 million children worldwide. The total was nearly triple the roughly 17 million recorded in 2010. It includes refugee and asylum-seeking children, along with millions uprooted within their own countries by conflict and violence.
Climate hazards are adding another layer of risk for children around the world. Nearly half of all children, or 1.1 billion, face at least three overlapping climate hazards. Almost every child faces at least one such hazard, according to UNICEF’s 2026 climate risk assessment. More than 4 million children face as many as six overlapping threats. The hazards include drought, extreme heat, heatwaves, floods, fires, tropical storms and sand and dust storms.

Economic cooperation formed a major part of the talks. Bilateral trade reached $1.3 billion in 2025, up 33%, according to the Uzbek government. Both countries set a target of raising annual trade to $5 billion by 2030. The number of joint ventures has increased sevenfold in recent years. The flood struck the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa District on the morning of August 26. It swept through riverbank settlements and damaged homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure. Officials said Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha suffered major effects as floodwaters moved through connected river systems. The disaster also hit Gyirong County in Tibet, where rescue teams continue searching mountain valleys and border areas. Authorities are still examining the full sequence that triggered the flood.
